D&D fans rejoice! Wizards of the Coast have released all of the classic rulebooks for basic through 4th edition, supplements and modules for download from the DriveThruRPG.com folks over at DnDClassics.com! I had read over on Geekdad that just about everything was going to be re-released, though right now there are only a smattering of offerings from the Second Edition (my childhood favorite) collection.
If you want to take a walk down nostalgia lane, check out B1- In Search of the Unknown, free through this week. This was an intro module created by Mike Carr to introduce new players to the rules of the game and was an attempt at the time to bridge the gap between basic and advanced editions of the game. I might float the idea to my own gaming group and see if they might be up for some nostalgia gaming this week!
I’m sure there’s a lot more to come… it’s curious that WotC made this decision, given that all of their effort is focused on D&D Next right now. It would seem that releasing all of these would sort of work counter to their efforts to unify fans of all previous editions.
