Blogging can be a bit of a challenge, as I’ve known from years of doing it. At least for me, if I focus a little too much on a subject I start feeling stifled. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’ve got ADD but I am a person of various interests, as many of us are.
My biggest challenge is that I get *really* into a particular thing for a while and then sort of let it ease off. Generally this happens for concrete reasons, specifically related to cash flow. I’ve variously considered being a brewer, selling barbecue from a food truck, and living out of an RV to travel around Florida and write about it. Then harsh reality sets in… I’m not independently wealthy nor do I have particularly great credit. The gates to the life of an entrepreneur are guarded by thugs who don’t smile upon those with low checking account balances.
All of this is just a long way of saying that I’m going to be stretching out, again. The subjects covered by this blog are going to become a bit more variable and include some of the passions that I can’t seem to get out of my system. Particularly, I’m going to spend a bit more time writing about food, food politics, great recipes and the joy of sharing food. I’m also going to branch out to write more about Florida and travelling around this state. In spite of the crushing population growth that’s occurred here, there are still some magical things left and occasionally magical things that pop up from the old fabric of the state. I want to discover them and write about them.
By the way, the main subject is still going to be horror/scifi/fantasy and my writing… and until it’s finished, my book. I just don’t feel like I have enough to warrant multiple updates per week. I don’t want to keep writing about what a struggle it is because I think that’s sort of obvious. I think when I have real updates or when I’m pushing through a landmark event I’ll post about it but this will give me some freedom to post about the other, important parts of my life as well. By the way the work continues, however slowly, I’m now pushing close to 63,000 words.
